General Questions

What fitness level is required for your programs?
We offer programs for all fitness levels, from gentle forest bathing walks to challenging mountain expeditions. Each program listing includes fitness requirements. If you're unsure, contact us to discuss which experiences match your capabilities. We can also customize programs to accommodate specific needs.
What should I pack for my trip?
We provide detailed packing lists upon booking confirmation. Generally, you'll need: layered clothing suitable for mountain weather, sturdy hiking boots, rain gear, sun protection, reusable water bottle, and personal items. Specialized equipment (climbing gear, camping equipment, etc.) is provided for technical activities.
Are solo travelers welcome?
Absolutely! Many of our participants travel solo. Group programs provide opportunities to meet like-minded nature enthusiasts. We can also arrange private guided experiences for those preferring one-on-one attention.
What is your cancellation policy?
Full refund if cancelled 30+ days before trip. 50% refund if cancelled 15-29 days before. No refund for cancellations within 14 days. We strongly recommend travel insurance. Weather-related cancellations initiated by us receive full refunds or rescheduling options.

Safety & Preparation

How do you ensure participant safety?
All guides are Wilderness First Responder certified with extensive experience. We maintain low guide-to-participant ratios, conduct thorough safety briefings, carry emergency communication devices, monitor weather conditions, and have established evacuation protocols. Safety is our top priority.
What about wildlife encounters?
We operate in bear country and follow strict wildlife safety protocols. Guides carry bear spray and are trained in wildlife behavior. We teach participants proper wildlife awareness and response techniques. Most wildlife encounters are at safe distances and incredibly rewarding experiences.
Do I need travel insurance?
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering trip cancellation, medical emergencies, and evacuation. Mountain activities carry inherent risks, and insurance provides crucial protection and peace of mind.

Sustainability & Ethics

How are your operations carbon neutral?
We offset all operational carbon emissions through verified reforestation projects, use fuel-efficient vehicles, minimize single-use plastics, source local food, and encourage carpooling. Our accommodations meet strict environmental standards. We're certified carbon neutral by third-party auditors.
What is your relationship with Indigenous communities?
We acknowledge we operate on traditional Indigenous territories and maintain respectful partnerships with local First Nations. We seek their guidance on land use, employ Indigenous guides when available, and support Indigenous-led conservation initiatives. Cultural sensitivity training is mandatory for all staff.
How do you practice Leave No Trace?
All programs include Leave No Trace training. We pack out all waste, stay on designated trails, minimize campfire impact, respect wildlife, and leave natural objects undisturbed. Participants receive education on low-impact practices they can continue using at home.

Logistics

Where do I meet the group?
Most programs meet at our office in Banff (100 Banff Avenue). Some trips include pickup from Calgary Airport for an additional fee. Detailed meeting instructions are provided upon booking confirmation.
What meals are included?
Multi-day programs typically include all meals. Day programs may include lunch/snacks. We accommodate dietary restrictions with advance notice. Meals emphasize local, organic ingredients and feature both hearty backcountry fare and gourmet options depending on the program.
What's the maximum group size?
Group sizes range from 4-12 participants depending on activity. Smaller groups for technical activities (climbing, backcountry), larger for gentle programs (forest bathing, day hikes). Low ratios ensure personalized attention and minimize environmental impact.
